One of the challenges in the automotive industry is the increasing demand for emission reduction due to global emission regulations. As a result, weight reduction concepts, which create demand for increased performance of materials, are frequently in PM component design. Miba has developed serial processes based on high performance material concepts to provide solutions for such challenging tasks.
In this paper, examples are displayed as to how lean manufacturing processes can be used to achieve increased value for customer benefit by using PM processing technology. Focusing on transmission components, PM technology can provide cost efficient processing solutions. To broaden the horizon of possibilities for the future, it is necessary to increase strength for both static and dynamic loads. Results of recent material and processing developments dealing with these requirements are discussed in this paper
